In a conversation with Ms. Moore, she describes the STEPS Program and the entire University Area CDC as valuable. She stated, “The program helped me to believe until I could believe in myself.” Ms. Moore shared that STEPS helped with her self-esteem and established a safe place for her to focus on her goals.

At the Florida Capital, Ms. Junita had an opportunity to share her story and how the STEPS Program/UACDC helped her improve her circumstances by creating a safe space to dream and set goals. Ms. Juanita is transparent about her struggles. For 30 years Ms. Juanita has struggled with drug addiction. During this time, she experienced homelessness and domestic violence. Ms. Junita described the significant challenges she faced during this time in detail. To exacerbate her challenges, she is grieving the loss of her son who passed away a year ago. With all Ms. Moore has endured she stated she plans to, “turn my pain into purpose” and use it to help others with similar circumstances by advocating for agencies like the University Area CDC, STEPS for Success program that provides wraparound case management services to make sure participants have the tools they need to be successful at accomplishing their goals and building a healthy support system..

Ms. Juanita is determined to accomplish her goals. She dreams of becoming a photojournalist. She is looking into colleges such as Hillsborough Community College to help her achieve this goal. With her determination, motivation, and contagious positive energy, we at UACDC are positive she will succeed.
