The University Area Community Safety Action Plan was developed in 2016 as a joint effort of over 30 community partners, businesses and residents. The group met consistently for six months to give input, hold focus groups, take community night walks and participate in “safe design” trainings with over 50 stake-holder interviews. The plan was designed to help reduce crime and improve perceptions of safety, based on sound research and community and resident engagement. Building upon key property acquisitions, planned public improvements, community cleaning and safety initiatives, a variety of supportive services and an expanding community policing approach, this plan outlines a comprehensive series of integrated efforts.
